Aaron Kyro Tries Olympic Skate Tricks ft Bryce Wettstein
The California Training Facility is a state of the art skate park where some of the best skateboarders from around the United States are able to practice for upcoming contests, mainly the Olympics. The Braille team was fortunate enough to visit the CA Training Facility in late 2019, even getting the chance to learn from future Olympians, such as Bryce Wettstein. A 16-year-old professional skateboarder and current member of the USA National Skateboarding team, Bryce is well on her way to competing at the Olympics in 2021. In the video below, Aaron Kyro attempts to learn a handful of Olympic skate tricks from the young shredder herself. Will he be successful, or will Aaron get BODIED!? Watch our video and find out for yourself!
How to Axle Stall
- Approach the obstacle you will stall on at a comfortable speed.
- As you reach the coping, lift your front trucks up while turning backside about 90-degrees
- Lock in the back trucks on the coping, then push down with your front foot to lock in your front trucks.
- With both trucks locked into the coping, simply lift up your front trucks, turn backside again and push the front of the board down into the ramp
- Bend your knees and roll away
How to Backside Ollie (on transition)
- With a good amount of speed, approach the coping with little to no angle.
- Push down slightly on the tail to lift your front wheels up so they don’t hit the coping on the way up.
- Bonk the coping with your back wheels and scoop with the tail
- As your back wheels come up over the coping, slowly turn your shoulders backside and roll your front foot like an ollie, using your front foot to push the nose down back into the ramp.
- Turn your head, look down into the ramp, and spot your landing.
- Bend your knees and roll away
How to Fakie Ollie (on transition)
- Approach the quarter pipe/transition at a comfortable speed with your feet in the ollie position.
- Bend your knees as you go up the ramp and before you reach your peak, pop an ollie.
- Keep your weight over your board. Don’t lean back, and don’t lean too far forward.
- Bend your knees and roll away.
How to Sweeper
- Approach the coping at a comfortable speed
- Once you get to the coping, grab your board on the heelside edge of the nose using your front hand
- Keep your front foot on while grabbing your board and plant your back foot on the coping
- Turn your body frontside, slapping the tail on the coping in front of your back foot.
- As you release the board with your hand, step onto the board with your back foot as you drop back into the ramp
- Bend your knees and roll away.
We had a lot of fun learning from Bryce in this video. Aaron managed to truly impress Bryce with not only his take on the “Sweeper” but also an incredible tail stall, shove it, to tail stall. On top of that, Bryce and Logan Frank threw down some heavy bangers to end the session. We hope you enjoyed it and learned something. Now get out there and SKATE!
